ellie's guitar in is a symbol of her connection to her past and her lost loved one, joel, as well as her ability to find and comfort in a world that is otherwise dangerous (literally an apocalypse). throughout the game, ellie is shown playing and singing songs on her guitar, often as a way to cope with the events she experiences. her guitar also serves as a reminder of her relationship with joel, who taught her how to play.
